Nepal Postal Codes

In 2025 Nepal Post replaced the 1991 postal codes with new 5-digit codes by province, district, and local level, plus an optional 2-digit ward number. The postal code is also called the ZIP code, PIN code, or post code. In Nepal they are the same number.

Old vs new codes

Nepal Post introduced new postal codes in 2025. The old codes from 1991 are retired, but many international forms still accept them.

A new code has 5 digits. The first digit is the province, the first three digits are the district, and all five are the local level (palika). Add the 2-digit ward number for a 7-digit ward code. For example, Kathmandu Metropolitan City is 30608, and its ward 1 is 3060801.

Use the new code wherever you can. We show a place's old code only when we are certain which palika it belongs to.
